Alzheimer’s changes marriage dynamics.
There’s an interesting article at CNN.com called Married her friend, living with a monster. It tells the story of the Gershmans. Sid Gershman, 65, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2005 and Joan is very clear about how this has effected them and their marriage.
“For 34 years, we were partners, lovers, friends — and all of sudden I am living with a monster…He became irrational; he was throwing temper tantrums; he couldn’t be reasoned with,” Gershman recalled. “It was like living with a stranger.”
