Alzheimer’s Caregivers Find Encouragment in Blogs & Blogging

by Mary Emma Allen on May 17th, 2007

I’ve noticed the number of blogs written by Alzheimer’s caregivers has increased since I began writing this blog about a year ago.  This has become a way for caregivers to share their experiences and to find encouragement by reading blogs written by others in a similar situation.

Blogging, whether you’re writing one or reading those written by others, becomes a global caregivers’ group, only you’re not meeting face to face.  However, you don’t feel so alone when you can read and share and even laugh.

This doesn’t take the place of the groups in your community where you can meet and give one another comfort, even a hug, as you struggle in your caregiver’s role.  Many places, though, you don’t find caregivers groups…or they meet at times when you’re at work…or they’re some distance from you. Then blogging and online groups can help you in your journey as an Alzheimer’s caregiver.

This morning I was reading through the personal blogs Liz listed in a previous post, Blogs About Alzheimer’s Disease.  Even though Mother and Auntie are no longer living, I still relate and know what the bloggers are experiencing.

(To learn more about blogging for personal use and even business use, if you don’t have a blog, you can check through several books on the topic.)
