5 Tips for Bouncing Back from Discouragement in Your Alzheimer’s World
Everyone, at some time, encounters losses, disappointments and discouragement in life, in their hobbies, their business, their personal life and other endeavors. Sometimes you even feel like giving up on a project or dream.
When you’re a caregiver in an Alzheimer’s world, you may wonder “Why?” “Why me?” “Why mom?” “Why is this happening?”
I recall being awakened in the night by Mother’s wandering around and wondering, “Why did I promise Father I’d take care of Mother if he died first?” I felt overwhelmed by the caretaking, as well as managing her business affairs.
However, generally we “get ourselves up, brush ourselves off, and start all over again!” No matter what the struggle. I did this with caring for Mother.
Celine, at Pimp Your Work, has 5 great tips for facing a loss or disappointment, or simply discouragement. She focuses on working with a team. However, individuals can take her suggestions, too, and use them for dealing with others or simply yourself.
One comment of Celine’s that I particularly like is, “With each loss is a lesson.” How true! Learn from disappointments and losses and apply that knowledge to the next challenge. I learned I could appreciate Mother in her Alzheimer’s world and realize there were rewards as well as struggles.
Do you have any tips for overcoming, getting up and starting out again?
