Learning from Alzheimer’s Patients

When we can learn from Alzheimer’s patients/victims what it’s like to live with the disease…what they encounter, what frustrates them, what annoys them, what pleases them, how we can best interact with them…we’ll know much better how to care for them.
I so often tried to discover what it was like inside Mother’s mind and thus […]

People with Alzheimer’s Disease speak out.

I discovered Norma Selbie, Marilyn Truscott, and Cynthia Williams while wandering through cyberspace the other day. They had all spoken at the 23rd National Alzheimer’s Society Conference in Halifax, NS in April 2001 about what it was like to live with Alzheimer’s disease.

Young People Taking an Interest in Alzheimer’s

It excites me when I see young people taking an interest in Alzheimer’s disease, both from the research aspect and the caregiving role.  This would indicate to me that we are rasising a young generation who care and are concerned about others.
When I read Liz’s post mentioning Melanie Kabinoff and her research with earthworms to aid […]

Book: ‘Dancing with Rose’ by Lauren Kessler.

Here’s another book that’s made it’s way onto my list of ‘must reads’.
People react to the death of a loved one in many ways. Lauren Kessler’s way was to try and understand more about the disease that killed her mother. To do so, she got a job as a caregiver at a residential Alzheimer’s facility […]
